Shane
in Sweden
Posted 10/08/06
After
suffering a very lengthy flight delay out to Sweden due to
today's increased security measures, things didn't quite go
according to plan for Shane in Sweden this evening.
His
Kaparna side, who started the day top of the league, were
at Team Dalakraft and would have been hoping for an away win
but instead were beaten by 43-23 in a meeting curtailed by
heavy rain.
Shane
came third in heat 3, Kaparna conceding a 5-1 from the gate,
and although he led heat 5 for a while his bike seemed down
on power and Dalakrafts Robert Pettersson took full advantage
to pass him, Shane having to settle for second. This was followed
by a third place in a shared heat 7 as conditions worsened.
Both
teams battled on to the end of heat 11, the cut off point
for the result standing and it was no great surprise when
the meeting was called off immediately following this heat.
With
Lejonen beating a Griparna side missing Kauko Nieminen and
Valsarna beating Ornarna, both sides leapfrog Kaparna at the
top of the league, relegating them to third.
Shane
will now be facing the long wait for his flight back to the
UK along with thousands of others.
Kauko
pulled out of his Swedish meeting this week and our understanding
from a Swedish contact is that it was due to his troublesome
wrist injury although at this stage that is unconfirmed.
