Bird
Flies In

Glasgow
have today confirmed their 6th signing, stunning many by announcing
Danny Bird as the rider who will wear the No 1 Tigers race
jacket in 2006 on an average of 9.19.
It
is a major signing coup for the Tigers with reported stiff
competition from Edinburgh in particular with Berwick and
Isle of Wight also reported to have been interested.
Until
last week Danny was hoping to be riding Elite League with
parent club Reading but a miscalculation on their part resulted
in him being dropped at a late stage after having been announced
as part of their team.
Admittedly
the timing of the announcement meant his options were limited
with many Elite league teams as well as most Premier League
sides unable to fit him in although he could have gambled
on getting a slot with Arena Essex or Ipswich.
However,
he has elected to return to the Premier League and has chosen
to do so at Glasgow much to the promotions delight. He had
been considering a number of offers and readily admits that
Glasgow's offer was NOT the best financially but a Sunday
track suits him.
As
indicated on this site earlier, an anonymous sponsor who has
stepped in to offer money towards Danny's signing has played
a major part in bringing this about and as Glasgow supporters
he - or she - has our gratitude.
It
leaves Glasgow weak in the middle order but they will have
two of the best riders in the Premier League at 1 and 5. The
thought of Danny and Shane in heat 13 and possibly 15 is a
mouthwatering one.
Danny
spent some time out last season injured but there is little
doubt that he is capable riding at Elite league level - their
loss is most definitely our gain. He has always been a well
respected opposition rider amongst the Glasgow fans and is
assured a warm welcome at Ashfield.
Welcome
to Glasgow Danny!
