After
the speculation of the last few days, it has been confirmed
that Adam Roynon is the latest rider recruited to the Buxton
Hitmen squad for 2006.
The
full press release, which also covers the signing of Glasgow
asset Gary Beaton, is posted below: -
New
Faces For Hitmen
Team building
for the 2006 Conference League speedway season continues as
the Buxton Hitmen have made two further signings with Gary
Beaton and Adam Roynon putting pen to paper. Both riders are
new to the Buxton team as the Hitmen are forced to make changes
from last years side due to the new gradings and ‘points’
limit imposed at the recent promoters conference.
Beaton, from Glasgow, has speedway in his blood as he follows
in the footsteps of his uncle’s Bobby, Jim and George
Beaton all of whom graced speedway in Scotland back in the
70’s. Beaton, who turns 20 in August, rode for Armadale
in the Conference League last year but, with their closure,
he will be making the trip down to Buxton to ride in 2006
as he starts his fourth full season of speedway. He finished
the season with an average of just over six from 24 meetings
and comes into the Buxton team as a Grade 5 and will probably
be the fourth of the top five.
Roynon hails from Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria and was due
to return to the Glasgow Tigers in the Premier League but
an injury sustained last September has meant that he will
not be ready for the start of their season and his team place
has gone to another rider. He averaged just under three points
a meeting for the Tigers in the Premier League in 2005. With
the Conference League starting a month later, Roynon is confident
that he will be fit to ride for Buxton. Recently the 17-year-old
said, “I have been doing what the doctors have told
me and the injury is healing well. I can’t wait until
I can get back on a bike, most likely in mid-March, so that
I can be ready to ride for Buxton. I am very much looking
forward to turning out for the Hitmen and am happy to be at
the club.”
The two youngsters will slot into the middle of the team and
plans are well advanced on completing the rest of the one-to-seven.
With Beaton and Roynon joining Ben Taylor and Lewis Dallaway
as confirmed riders, it just leaves three places in the starting
line-up to be announced. Promoter Jayne Moss said, “I
have had quite a few riders on the phone that are interested
in riding for us and the team that we are putting together
has quite a good look about it. With things to do with the
team being well advanced, work on the track will start as
soon as the bad weather goes and it stops trying to snow everyday.”
Good Luck to both Gary and Adam in their
appearances with Buxton in 2006.
