Promoters
Withdraw Their Quit Threat
Posted 07/09/06
The
Glasgow promotion have withdrawn their threat to resign and
sell Glasgow speedway at the end of this season.
Clarifying
the decision NOT to put the Tigers up for sale, Alan Dick
comments: -
'Having
had time to reflect on the matter we have decided not to resign.
We are building something good for the fans here and we want
to continue to do that'.
It
is confirmed in an article in this week's Speedway Star which
also covers the story which caused them to make the threat
- the refusal to allow Danny Bird to ride last Friday and
Sunday despite him being declared fit.
The
promotion still vehemently disagree with the decision and
whilst appreciating the need for the rule to exist still feel
that the decision to exclude Danny was beyond understanding.
No
definitive reason appears to have been given to explain why
Danny was not allowed to return and BSPA chairman Peter Toogood
has certainly done himself no favours by REFUSING to explain
the reasoning but instead making the following quote: -
'There
is a regulation that allows the management committee to rule
a rider out for seven days if he has missed a match because
of a non-speedway injury. On this occasion that rule was implemented.
Glasgow
had previously been given permission on two occasions to re-introduce
Danny Bird into their line up following illness but on this
occasion, permission was denied.
I
have absolutely no comment to make {on the co-promoters original
threat to quit} except to say certain people spit their dummies
out when decisions don't go their way.
Last
year Glasgow said they were dropping down to the Conference
League because they were losing money. Did they? No!'
Although
our recollection was that the threat last season was that
Glasgow would not run and Berwick were threatening to go Conference
League that threat could also have been made by Glasgow. It
does look though as if Mr Toogood is not looking for Glasgow's
backing to maintain his Chairman's role at this years conference.
