Bird's
Wild

Danny
Bird has been named as one of two wild cards for the Premier
League Riders Championship at Sheffield on the 24th of this
month.
With
every Premier League club having one representative in the
event, there were two places left to make up the field and
these were allocated to Danny and to in form King's Lynn heat
leader Kevin Doolan.
The
full line up, in starting order with their 2006 Owlerton average
in blue, is: -
- George
Stancl (Newcastle) 6.67
- Chris
Holder (Isle of Wight) 5.09
- Kevin
Doolan (King's Lynn) 8.00
- Carl
Wilkinson (Newport) 5.09
- Chris
Neath (Rye House) 3.56
- Michal
Makovsky (Berwick) 7.64
- Jason
Lyons (Mildenhall) 8.00
- Theo
Pijper (Edinburgh) 6.22
- Mark
Lemon (Stoke) 7.20
- Garry
Stead (Workington) 6.50
- SHANE
PARKER
(Glasgow) 8.40
- Andre
Compton (Sheffield) 11.56
- Tomas
Topinka (King's Lynn) 7.11
- Garry
Havelock (Redcar) 10.40
- Magnus
Zetterstrom (Somerset) 8.00
- DANNY
BIRD
(Glasgow) 6.40
Home
rider Andre Compton will undoubtedly be one of the favourites
to claim the title that he won in controversial circumstances
in 2004. He is recovering from a broken collar bone although
that obviously didn't stop Shane last season in the pairs!
Gater
Magnus Zetterstrom will be hard to beat and Gary Havelock
also has the measure of the circuit and it would be a surprise
if these two did not make the final. Being rather cynical,
you could wonder how long before tapes up Chris Neath will
fall victim to a virus and be replaced by Edward Kennett.
