The following is a transcript of an article
published in the Speedway Star of 16th September on the possibility
of Gordon Pairman buying Belle Vue. We cannot vouch for its
content and Gordon Pairman himself has already stated on Easy
Tiger, the Glasgow Fans Forum, that he feels the article
was 'hi-jacked' by Belle Vue's Press Officer Richard Frost.
Mystery
Man is.....
Speedway Star, 16th September 2006
Glasgow
co-promoter Gordon Pairman is the mystery bidder who wants
to buy Belle Vue from Tony Mole.
And
fellow Ashfield promoter Stewart Dickson has been sounded
out about joining in the venture with him. (glasgowspeedway.com
note - this has been refuted as inaccurate by Gordon Pairman).
Mole
is refusing to confirm the name of the man who has made the
shock bid but Pairman, a 57-year-old Glaswegian Chartered
Accountant who lives and works on the Isle of Man, is the
man.
That
was confirmed this week when Dickson revealed he will be having
talks with Pairman about taking a slice of the action.
Belle
Vue fans, somewhat shaken by the turn of events and the likely
departure of the promotion that has turned the club round
in less than two years, won't have to wait beyond September
27th to discover the future for their club.
Mole
said: 'I am not prepared to disclose the name of the person
who has made the offer until the deal is complete. I think
it is more likely than not to occur.
I
have told him that I want a decision by September 27 so I
can announce it at a meeting of the BSPA. We won't be talking
after that date and I won't be messed around.
I
want to stress that Belle Vue is not on the open market and
I won't place it there. But I am confident in the ability
of the man who has made the offer to take over the club. If
a deal isn't done then I will be back next season.'
Pairman
has been a Glasgow supporter since 1966 but didn't get seriously
involved with the club until 2003 when he helped to finance
the signing of George Stancl from Wolverhampton. He became
a promoter at the beginning of last season.
Meanwhile,
Pairman is angry that his name was revealed last weekend when
he was trying to conduct his business on a confidential basis.
And
he has also revealed how he was interested in buying the world-famous
Aces when John Perrin sold the business to Tony Mole two seasons
ago.
He
said: 'I was shocked and irritated that my name was mentioned
last Friday on an internet forum and then later the same day
in an article in the Manchester Evening News. I would therefore
like to set the record straight.'
Current
Aces owner Mole revealed last week that he was considering
an offer and that he hadn't actively looked to sell the club.
Pairman however, sees the story in a different way
Said
Pairman: 'Tony Mole 'phoned me out of the blue at the beginning
of August. He had found out that I had shown an interest in
Belle Vue when John Perrin announced that he was selling up
two years ago, and asked if I would be interested in buying
it from him.
Discussions
have continued and Tony is seeking an early decision. I have
to admit that there is a certain appeal to me, both because
of the history of the club but also because it is probably
the most accessible track for me from my home in the Isle
of Man.
I
told my co-promoters at Glasgow about the approach from Tony
at the earliest opportunity and asked that they keep the information
to themselves, partly because discussions are at an early
stage and partly because both Belle Vue and Glasgow are having
successful seasons, and the last thing the teams need are
irrelevant distractions.
My
commitment to Glasgow remains total and my 40-year affection
for the team will not change although I have not made any
firm decisions about my involvement with the Tigers in 2007.'
