Zetterstrom
Wins PLRC
Posted 24/09/06
It
wasn't to be for either Danny or Shane at Sheffield tonight
as the Premier League Riders Championship was won by Somerset's
Magnus Zetterstrom.
Danny
came closest, just reaching the semi final in fourth place
after failing to score in his final ride in the heats. He
had previously managed two firsts, a second and a third but
found himself off the unproductive gate for in his final ride.
Unfortunately
for Danny, he was also left with gate four in the semi final
and in attempting to make the start ahead of his competitors
he was adjudged to have touched the tapes. There is no provision
in the PLRC to go off 15m, Danny was disqualified and his
challenge was over.
Shane's
night had been even less successful but had started well with
a win in his opening ride. The draw meant that he was off
the outside gate twice in the meeting, a gate which accounted
for over half the last places in the meeting. Shane only managed
three thirds and a fourth after his initial heat win and failed
to qualify for the semi's.
One
of the pre-meeting favourites, Andre Compton, withdrew from
the meeting injured after aggravating his shoulder injury
in a first bend bunching incident in heat 13. Ironically he
was the only rider on the night to beat eventual winner and
top points scorer in the qualifying heats, Magnus Zetterstrom.
Much
of the racing was from the gate but Zetterstrom was the rider
who adapted best to the conditions and was a deserved winner
on the night. Congratulations to Somerset's number 1 on his
win.
