Kauko Helps Sheffield Qualify

Kauko Nieminen got a taste of what it is like to qualify for the semi-final of the play-offs as he helped Sheffield to an aggregate victory over the Comets at Workington last night.

Riding as a guest for the injured Andre Compton, Kauko rode better than his points toll of 6+1 suggests. He was unfortunate to have an engine failure in his opening heat although from a Glasgow point of view it was better it happened at Workington than at Ashfield today when Kauko's scoring could be crucial.

In his remaining rides, Kauko recorded a second and paid second - both times the Workington rider ahead of him was Garry Stead - together with a win in heat 9.
