George is the third generation of his family to ride speedway
- his father is arguably one of Czechoslovakia's best ever
riders. He has been riding since he was four years old and
first rode in the UK for Sheffield in 1994.
George joined Glasgow in 2003 and had an immediate impact
as team captain, a position he held until June 2004. An
excellent gater, his tidy style is good to watch.
Despite rumours in the close season, George remained at
Glasgow for 2005. It was a good year for him as he won the
pairs with Shane Parker and went on to win the Ashfield
classic at the end of the season. Although he still suffered
from engine failures slightly more often than the average,
it was significantly less than he had done in the past.
However, he decided that he wanted to race elsewhere in
2006 and rejected Glasgow's offer out of hand choosing instead
to ride for Newcastle. Its a track he rides well and is
within 20 minutes of his UK base so seems a logical decision
for the likeable Czech although he will be missed by many
of the Glasgow faithful.
