Glasgow 'Buildbase' Tigers
(Posted 08/12/07)

A couple of comments were made with regard to the tigers future but without doubt the biggest announcement relating to the future was the announcement of Buildbase as team sponsors for 2008.

Buildbase have increasingly become more visible in their support of speedway over the past few years with their sponsorship of Coventry as well as individual riders - including David McAllan and Trent Leverington last season.

Graham Lister of Buildbase in Scotland was present and gave a brief interview confirming that the sponsorship deal was actually partly driven by his southern bosses thanks to their good relationship with Coventry, their sponsorship of them in 2008 making them the longest team sponsor in the top league.

Sports sponsorship is part of the Buildbase objective to give back to local communities and in addition to speedway they also heavily support superbikes as sponsors of the Buildbase Ducati Team, are in their 7th year of sponsoring Oxford United Football Club and are heavily involved in sponsorship for powerboats.

There was little to mention on the stadium situation other than to confirm that the lease was only being given on a year by year basis by the football club as that is all they could guarantee. in addition, the decision on the planning application for potential development on the land adjacent to the track and incorporating the current Ashfield Bar will not reach an absolute conclusion until January.

There is talk of the stadium site perhaps being one of those being earmarked for development as a training centre for the 2014 Commonwealth games but even if that were to happen there is no way of knowing at this stage how this could impact on speedway.

Finally, Alan was keen to emphasise the fantastic contribution of previous team sponsors Fraser McDonald of FSM Outdoor Advertising and Travel Inn for all they have done for the club and both have indicated they will continue to back the speedway in the future.
