Trent
2nd in Queensland Solos
(Posted 09/12/07)
Trent Leverington claimed the runners up slot in yesterday's
Queensland Solo Title at Gold Coast Speedway, Scott Smith claiming
the title.
Trent looked comfortable all night without looking out
of his comfort zone in what was reported as one of the best meetings
witnessed at the track in a long time.
The meeting had at one stage been in doubt after heavy
overnight rain but sterling work by the track staff gave the riders
an excellent surface to race on and their effort was rewarded by an
entertaining meeting.
Three straight wins and two second places saw Trent
qualify for the final behind Kozza Smith with five straight wins and
eventual winner Scott Smith who had only lost the one race to his
namesake.
It was a contraversial first running in the final with
Trent, Kozza Smith and Steven Reid coming off whilst in close contention
on the third bend of the opening lap. A tough one to call, many felt
that Kozza Smith was the cause and would be excluded from the re-run
but the referee called all four back!
After a poor start in the re-run, Trent managed to squeeze
through into second place on the opening lap behind Scott Smith but
Kozza Smith came back almost immediately and he was back to third.
Trent shadowed Kozza for 2 laps looking for the line before passing
him towards the end of the third lap to reclaim second spot although
by this time Scott Smith was well clear on his home track and easily
claimed the title.
Our thanks to Dave for his comments on the meeting.
