Mauger Coup for STARs

As first previewed at our big event back in December,
the STARs group are delighted to now confirm the staging details for
our final supporters event of this close season.
Bringing down the curtain on what has been a wonderfully enjoyable
and entertaining close season for Glasgow fans, STARs have again pulled
out the stops to provide a first class line up of guests ... and a
top line stunning new venue!
Note the day in your social diary now ... Sunday, 25th February with
a start time of 6:30pm. In a departure from those more familiar venues
which have become most associated with speedway social events, STARs
have negotiated to take this event into new territory ... to the extremely
fashionable, comfortable City Centre bar/diner - TigerTiger
- this venue can be found on Glassford Street, directly opposite Marks
& Spencers. In terms of parking, there is a multi-story car park
beside TigerTiger as well as secure parking within 2 minutes walk,
directly beside the St. Enoch Centre shopping mall. There are several
bus routes which run close by, and Queen Street/Argyle Street train
stations are each within minutes!
With a prospective business tie-up between TigerTiger and
Glasgow speedway it is important that this event is healthily supported.
Following the success of the Steve Lawson / Hans Andersen / Andy
Reid event back in December, STARs have decided to maintain much of
the format this time around .... although, as you may expect, with
some new features planned too.
Ok ... we have the date, we have the venue ... so who are the guests?
What a first name to announce as our special guest ... undoubtedly
THE most famous speedway name on the planet ... making his first ever
appearance at a Glasgow supporters event is 6 times speedway World
Champion and 3 times World Longtrack Champion (to name but just a
few successes in a long and illustrious career), the legendary Ivan
Mauger MBE, OBE.
Joining the great man as guest for the night is a former Tigers great,
one of the most popular riders to have worn the stripes, a star man
from the double-double era, the very likeable David Walsh.
Completing the line-up, and making his first appearance in Scotland
of 2007, will be Mr Popular himself, current Tigers skipper ... Shane
Parker. (Shane will be hot-footing it to the event from some promotional
work at the Scottish Motorsports Show in Lanark).
The intention is to ensure that we benefit in an entertaining way
from the insight, knowledge, recollections and humour of each of the
guests ... as example, how much do some of us REALLY know about Shane,
his earlier career record, achievements etc? Come along and find out!
Who does Ivan Mauger rate as the best speedway riders of all time?
David and his high-speed smash with Martin Goodwin, his recollections
.. plus much, much more.
The event will also feature a prize raffle as well as a speedway
memorabilia auction which will feature, amongst other things, signed
Glasgow 60th Anniversary race jackets, older Tigers race jackets,
a very rare Workington Tigers race jacket, some signed/framed action
pictures (including of Ivan Mauger) and David Walsh's slightly torn
race jacket following that Shawfield crash with Martin Goodwin!
STARs will also make their 100 Club winners draw for February (congratulations
to Fraser McDonald for his £150 win drawn during the Mike Patrick
event last week).... anyone wishing to join-up as a new 100 club member
can do so on the night.
The event is pay-at-the-door with admission costing only £7.50
(adults) and just £3 (children under 12), everyone will be entered
into a special prize draw to win the privilege of making a presentation
to the guests on the night.
So, there you have it .... a big-night finale to this close season,
a further chance to turn out and enjoy a thoroughly entertaining night
amongst speedway minded friends AND sample a brand new speedway friendly
location.
As before, make sure that you come along so that you can say "I
was there"!
This is our final fund raising initiative before the season gets
underway, and therefore our final opportunity to fund the publicity
campaign (posters, billboards etc.) designed to attract more and more
people to come and watch the Tigers this season - only YOUR support
can allow us to make these promotional initiatives happen, for the
'big picture' benefit of us all.
Thanks for your support, look forward to seeing you there, bring
a friend!
