Glasgow
Part of Academy League
(Posted
01/03/07)
Ashfield will be one of the 18 Elite and Premier League
tracks playing host to the new Academy League.
The new Academy League will be open to 14 year olds
and will be split into three sections, Glasgow's section being named
the Fearnley Academy after the former Belle Vue Chief and comprising
of Birmingham, Edinburgh, Sheffield and Workington in addition to
Glasgow. Maximum age will be 21.
The actual meetings themselves will take place after
Premier League meetings with four rider teams competing over six heats
- a result standing after four heats are completed. Meetings will
be on a home and away basis with the top cubs in each section going
through to play offs together with the best second place side. Again
these will be on a home and away basis.
It is a good opportunity to encourage some of the younger
riders currently lost to speedway due to lack of opportunity and hopefully
on race days when an Academy meetings take place as many as possible
will stay behind and give the kids encouragement.
The other two sections making up the Academy League
System are: -
Foot Academy: - Eastbourne,
Lakeside, Poole, Reading, King's Lynn, Rye House.
Ochiltree Academy: - Belle Vue,
Coventry, Newport, Somerset, Swindon, Wolverhampton
