Its good to see the Glasgow Speedway Academy Initiative
Determined to Succeed - mentioned by Shane Parker in his e-mail read
out to the fans on Sunday - get some coverage on the BSPA
Website.
A lot of people have worked hard behind the scenes to
promote Glasgow speedway via this initiative over the year and allow
speedway to give something to the community by helping youngsters
in language, maths and IT skills.
The initiative reaches is conclusion tonight with a
graduation ceremony and all those who have been involved in its promotion
and running deserve credit for all their hard work.

GLASGOW City Council's 'Determined
to Succeed' programme is completed on Monday evening with the winners
being announced at a special graduation event.
A Speedway Challenge initiative was launched in partnership with the
Speedway Riders Association and since then 200 children from nine
different primary schools in the North Glasgow area have taken part.
The scheme has given the youngsters the opportunity to be to attend
the Speedway Study Support Centre and be involved in language, maths
and ICT tasks based on speedway.
Gary Condie, Enterprise Education Officer for Determined to Succeed,
said: "This exciting venture has been great fun for the youngsters
and has seen the sport of speedway used as a way to motivate pupils,
increase their self esteem and become more effective learners – but
above all raise achievement.
"The PowerPoint competition has been very close and the work the youngsters
have produced has been wonderful and far beyond all our expectations."
Australian speedway riders Trent Leverington and Robert Kziesak, who
have met the children at workshops over the last few months, will
be at the presentation on Monday evening.
The winners receive PSPs from sponsor FSM Outdoor Advertising, runners
up will win MP3 players sponsored by Glasgow Speedway and STARS and
two schools win £75 each from John Lewis.
