It was quite a surprise when Tigers signed Michael Coles as a replacement for Lee Smethills but the Devon born rider certainly provided experience in the reserve berth.

Coming towards the end of his career he has ridden for quite a number of clubs including our closest rivals, traveling to Edinburgh from his Exeter base for 5 years. He probably reached his peak whilst riding for his local side Exeter either side of the millennium.

Michael has struggled in recent seasons following a very bad back injury sustained at the Isle of Wight 3 seasons ago which many thought would result in him retiring. However, Colesy still has something to offer the Premier League and has been determined to ride on. He may not have enjoyed the best of form in recent seasons - something that has seen him drop substantially in average - but he did seem to be a bit unlucky to be dropped from Berwick a few weeks before signing for the Tigers despite upping his average.
