Robert was drafted into the Tigers line up at the start
of last season when it became clear Adam Roynon would not be fit and
turned out to be an excellent signing for the Tigers.
It had looked as if Robert would be without a team for
2006 after a broken leg and ankle had dessimated his 2005 season at
Edinburgh but he soon settled down under the watchful eye of his countryman
and team captain Shane Parker, whose guidance Robert was quick to
acknowledge paid a major part in his desire to return to Glasgow this
season.
Robert undoubtedly benefitted from the reserve grading
rules in 2006 having been one of four Australian riders granted exemption
from the 'Brits Only' reserve rule, upping his average by almost two
points.
He is widely recognised as a youngster who is showing
great potential and was therefore a hot target for many clubs in 2007.
Glasgow had to wait until his parent club Edinburgh established he
would not have a place intheir line up before being allowed to approach
him but as soon as clearance was given a deal was done for the popular
youngster to return, much to the delight of teh Tigers fans and promotion
alike.
Robert holds joint nationality - Polish and Australian
- and it is understood that he will now revert to riding on a Polish
licence. As a result, his exact average for 2007 is not known at this
stage but it is not going to be any higher than a bargain 5.00.
As a youngster, Robert raced BMX only taking up speedway
at 13. He has progressed quickly in the sport and at the tender age
of only just 17 he finished runner up in the Australian U-21 Championship.
He also won the Jack Young Cup last February at Gillman.
He will be looking forward to the challenge of riding
in the main body of the team in 2007, something that is certainly
not beyond him, and will certainly be looking towards finishing third
in Tigers averages for the season.
