Snippets From Friday Night
29/01/06
Those attending the STARs talk in on Friday
night got their first chance to meet with Danny Bird and to pick up
one or two snippets of information.
The talk in itself was really all about opinions and the sort of
thing you had to be at, especially to hear the confession of a rider
to wearing old underwear and his mothers leggings under his kevlars!
Danny did however confirm that the Glasgow offer was the best for
him because of the travel arrangements as much as anything - he can
be back home in two hours whereas if he had gone to Edinburgh he was
looking at an 8 or 9 hour drive each way.
From a track point of view, on arrival at the stadium people would
have noticed a container strategically placed beside the bar on the
third bend. Alan Dick confirmed that another container will be positioned
alongside it and together with extra tarpaulin this should be enough
to satisfy the council requirements. The promotion do also intend
to have a meeting with those who have complained.
Sponsorship options are still being pursued with the club talking
to 96QFM, The Evening Times and Radio Clyde amongst others. Michael
Max will continue to issue Monday Press Bulletins.
Glasgow have been actively trying to fix Trent up with another club
since it became clear he could not be fitted in at Ashfield. Ross
was also circulated to clubs as being available after he rejected
Glasgow's terms. Only this week has a club come forward who may be
interested in using him initially on loan and perhaps to purchase
his contract later on in the season.
The club does have a draft copy of this seasons fixtures but these
are currently embargoed. They could be available as soon as the next
seven days but in response to specific questions it was confirmed
that Glasgow will be at Newport the night before the GP and Mildenhall
the day after whilst the PL Pairs is due to be run on 18th June. They
will try again to get STV interested in giving at least some publicity
to the Pairs.
On other TV matters, there is a General Council meeting in the middle
of February when the terms of the Sky deal are expected to be confirmed.
The promotion were also asked about Frankow and Dicken. Confirming
Dicken was the best option for the points Glasgow had left, it was
also confirmed that they had tried hard to get Frankow but when he
elected to sign for Lubin in Poland he obviously was out of Glasgow's
plans. He has however indicated that if the opportunity arose in the
future he would like to ride at Glasgow.
Although perhaps not as well attended as other STARs events, it was
another successful evening and hopefully plenty of funds were raised
to promote Glasgow Speedway.
