Another Victory for the Rain
(Posted 31/08/08)

Not for the first time this season, the weather was cruel to Glasgow. After a dry morning the rain started 10 minutes before tapes up and with no sign of it abating the referee had an easy decision to make calling the meeting off just after 4.30.

Probably the most surprising thing about the afternoon was that the meeting started at all.

As already said, the rain started before tapes up but the two minute warning still went on just after 4pm and the riders came to tapes for heat one in some pretty dubious conditions.

In fairness to all four they gave it a good go, Adrian Rymel making a superb gate to go on and win the heat in a pretty respectable time especially given the conditions. Robert and Lee filled the minor placing's, the heat being relatively well spread out after the opening bends.

Heat 2 then came to tapes with the rain still teeming down. This time it was Glasgow's Mitchell Davey who made the gate and rode a very good couple of opening bends. It was all to be in vain though as partner Josh Grajczonek came off on the opening bend and the race was halted. The referee perhaps gave Josh the benefit of the doubt or decided conditions were as much to blame as anything as he called an unsatisfactory start with all four back.

The re run was never to take place however as the rain showed no sign of stopping. The referee initially called a delay and then advised he would make a final decision at 4.30. True to his word, the meeting was called off at 4.30 with rain still falling.

Glasgow now have the headache of another fixture to fit in before the end of the season. In addition, rumours were circulating that Josh has incurred another injury in his fall with a suspected broken knuckle but that is still to be confirmed
