Lee Shines at Berwick
(Posted 18/10/08)
After a difficult night at Armadale guesting for King's Lynn, Lee Dicken was in excellent form as he helped Berwick overcome an 11 point deficit to qualify for the Young Shield final at the expense of Isle of Wight.
The evening started badly again however for The Lee as he was the victim of a tough opening bend in the opening heat. He appeared to have been impeded but the referee allowed the race to continue and Lee could not make up for lost ground, retiring at the back on the final lap.
He bounced back in typical Lee fashion however, with a paid second place in heat 3 followed by a paid win in heat six when both he and fellow guest Jason Doyle overhauled early leader Krzysztof Stojanowski to secure a 5-1 for the home side.
Heat 8 gave Lee a well deserved win from the tapes.
Once again the Doyle-Dicken partnership proved very effective in heat 10. Islanders reserve Richard Sweetman had made the gate but Doyle swept round the outside into the lead off bend two. Lee pressed the young Islander almost playing cat and mouse with him before executing a well timed pass on the penultimate bend of the race to give the home side yet another 5-1 and put the Bandits ahead on aggregate for the first time.
