4+1 for Lee
(Posted 26/10/08)
In the opening leg of the Young Shield final at Workington tonight, Lee Dicken scored 4+1 for Berwick at no 2 as the Bandits went down by 58-34.
It was again a rather controversial meeting Lee himself getting involved in some heated discussions after his final race.
He opened up with a paid second behind fellow reserve Woffinden in the opening heat.
He was out again in heat 3 and part of a good battle for second place. An error at the start of the third lap sent him from 2nd to last place however and he was unable to recover. This was followed by another last place in heat 5 when he was unable to compete with the pace of Haines, Wright and partner Woffinden. A third place followed, from the tapes, in heat 8.
There were a few talking points in Lee's final heat, heat 11, He and team mate Tai Woffinden hit the front on a 1-5 coming out of the second bend. Stonehewer was zig zagging at the back of Lee and made what some felt was a slightly dangerous overtake on him coming out of bend two, something Lee certainly seemed to agree with as he had a rather frank face to face heated discussion with the Comet at the end of the race. It looked as if Lee would have to settle for the single point but his third place was amended to second thanks to race winner Tai Woffinden being disqualified for not having a dirt deflector fitted.
On a track that Lee has struggled on this year it was a decent return for him.
