Busy Night for Mitchell at Armadale
(Posted 08/08/08)
It was always going to be a tough booking for Mitchell Davey as he stepped in to guest for Mildenhall at Edinburgh against probably the strongest reserve pairing in the league.
The first three outings for Mitchell in heats 2, 6 and 7 saw him finish at the rear.
He struggled with the second bend in his first outing, especially on the third lap and although he was a lot closer to Graversen than he had been to the riders in heat 2, they were well beaten by the home pair in heat 6.
Although heat 7 saw him finish at the rear, he was definitely looking better on track and was alongside Theo Pijper till the later stages of the race.
Heat 9 saw Mitchell gain his only point of the evening ahead of his race partner Jan Graversen from the gate. Once again though the Edinburgh pairing were well ahead but Mitchell was definitely riding better than he had in the earlier part of the meeting.
The improvement continued when he came out in heat 12 and although he again finished at the rear he was on Aaron Summers back wheel for three laps before dropping off towards the end.
His final outing in heat 14 saw him partner Theo Pijper who was on a TS. Mitchell held Andrew Tully off in the early stages of the race although Tully got through towards the end of the opening lap. Mitchell continued to press and only dropped off when Pijper eventually caught up on the third lap. Mitchell deliberately slowed and went wide to allow his team mate through in the hope he could catch one of the home side but to no avail.
Overall although it was a poor start to the night there were definitely positives for Mitchell to take from the evening on a track many other more experienced riders struggle to come to terms with.
