The Track Situation
(Posted 07/12/08)
Alan Dick touched on the track situation at Ashfield on Friday night but by far the biggest problem facing the Tigers track wise for next season is the news that broke last week that next season we will be without the services of Danny Gibb as track curator.
Danny has undoubtedly been one of the major unsung heroes of Ashfield in recent seasons and has put in an unbelievable amount of work both on match days and through the week, often battling against the odds.
His energy and enthusiasm was obvious for all to see and he is still talked about in awe by the Rye House fans who cannot believe the way he picked up and carried a seized bike. He will be a massive miss for Glasgow next season.
Secondary in the track problems is the re-shaping of the circuit. As we all know the football club as landlords insisted on the changes to their pitch last season. There was a meeting with the Ashfield Committee last Tuesday which formally agreed the deal for the Tigers to ride at Ashfield this season and the football club have insisted that the width of the pitch is very important to them.
It leaves Glasgow with the problem of how to amend the shape and the only option would appear to be doing some serious remedial work on the 1st and 2nd bends which could be prohibitively costly. They are however in the process of getting quotes and looking at any options available to them..
