William Lawson did himself and Tigers proud at the PLRC at Sheffield last night, only narrowly missing out on a place in the final.

It wasn't the greatest of meetings and passing was most definitely not much in evidence but William got his head down right from the start, making what was possibly the best gate of the night in his opening heat, winning comfortably.
There were a couple of rare passes in his second outing involving William. Newcastle's Kenni Larsen got the drop on him on what was a close gate. William was in second place but drifted off line towards the end of the second lap. Jason Lyons was close behind and took advantage to nip through into second place but William hit back within half a lap, passing on a tight inside line to regain his second spot.
Unfortunately William made his poorest gate in heat 10 although was able to claim third spot behind Ward and Proctor thanks in part to Ward pushing Steve Johnston very wide on the opening bends allowing William through.
Heat 15 saw him finish in second place to eventual winner and home rider Ricky Ashworth in a very processional race from the gate, keeping William very much in contention for the semi final. He secured his place in the semi finishing in second place again in another very processional heat in heat 20.
Redcar's Ty Proctor on 11 points got the first choice of gate and although William had previously beaten both other semi finalists who finished on the same number of points as him, they got to choose gates first courtesy of having more race wins leaving William with what was left.
Once again the race was to be decided on gating, William gated third and although he tried very hard there were no apparent passing lines on the track and neither Howe or Proctor ahead of him made a mistake so he had to settle for third place, just missing out on a slot in the final that many felt his display had deserved.
