After a few years switching between Glasgow and Newcastle, it looks as if British Speedway may have seen the last of the fast gating and popular Czech racing competitively as he has indicated to quite a few people that he is no longer in love with speedway and has decided to hang up his leathers.

It seems he is unlikely to change his mind although you can never tell

He initially joined Glasgow in 2003 and held the position of team captain until June 2004. Many Tigers fans were disappointed, although not surprised, when he elected to leave Glasgow at the end of 2005 to ride for the Newcastle Diamonds

It was only to be for a year and he approached Glasgow at the end of 2006 requesting a return to his parent club, something that the promotion were quick to grant and a decision that was popular amongst the Tigers fans.

Pre-season, he did seem in a doubting frame of mind but those doubts quickly subsided as George found his feet in the early part of the season and racked up some impressive scores.

However, a drop in form and loss of confidence in June saw the promotion take the tough decision to drop him. George had a two week rest before being snapped up by rivals Edinburgh where he regained not only his confidence but his form. He showed just how much the move had rejuvenated him when he retained his Ashfield Classic title with an almost flawless display at the end of the October.

He returned to Newcastle for 2008 but a combination of injury and loss of confidence had an effect, dropping half a point below his first UK season average of 7.64 for the only time in his career.

In addition to his two Ashfield Classic titles, George also won the Premier League Pairs at Ashfield, partnering the injured Shane Parker, in 2005.
