After 3 years in the Stripes, Lee decided at the end of 2008 that he wanted to try for a team that did not ride on a Sunday so that he could go grass tracking with his young son. However, team places proved hard to come by and Lee ended up back at another of his old haunts, Newport, riding in the National League.
The time at Newport was short however with Lee parting company with them at the end of May, the Newport Hornets website claiming at the time that he had decided to retire.
When Glasgow were more or less forced into making changes and looking for a strong second reserve, Lee was naturally high on their list and a popular choice amongst the fans.
His time at Glasgow has always been characterised by 100% effort, a never say die attitude and a good team man who has always been instrumental in promoting good team spirit as well as good relations with the fans.
He has a wealth of lower league experience behind him dating back to 1994 when he first took to the track with Buxton against Mildenhall.
In his previous 3 seasons with Glasgow he has won the GTSSC award for the rider scoring the most bonus points
